About Smitty's Equestrian Property Services
My name is Ryan "Smitty" Smith, and horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. The photo at the top of this page was taken when I was around 4 years old — that's me on Apache, a Gypsy Draft Cross who was one of my first horses.
I grew up around horses, helped care for boarded horses as a child, and today I live on 3 acres in an equestrian community with my two equine — Wilbur, a retired off-the-track Thoroughbred who was, by his own account, not great at racing, and Walter, a Catalan donkey who keeps things interesting. I rotate them between paddocks to maintain healthy grazing, manage their pastures, and do the daily work that comes with keeping equine properly cared for.
Smitty's was born out of a simple reality: my wife and I, along with many of our neighbors, had horses but not enough hours in the day to care for the property the way it deserves. I had the equipment and the knowledge, so I made it my business — literally. My goal is to handle the hard, time-consuming work so that equine owners can get back to actually enjoying their animals.
What sets me apart from a general landscaping company isn't just the equipment — it's the understanding that comes with years of hands-on experience. I know why pasture rotation matters, why dry lots need to stay dry, why you can't just plant any grass seed on a horse property, and why how you operate equipment around horses and their ground matters. My tractor runs turf tires specifically to protect growing grass and paddock surfaces. These aren't things you learn from a landscaping textbook — they come from living it.
If you have horses, you deserve someone who gets it. That's what Smitty's is built on.
